  • Description:  It's time to head Back to School at the Francis Land House! This monthly program features house tours all day, kid crafts and a special story time for our youngest visitors. Learn what school was like for the Land children, and compare it to today. Practice writing your name on a slate, or make a hornbook to take home. This program is free and open to the public.

Boy Scout History by Firelight   View Event

  • Description:  Enjoying the spooky backdrop of the Lynnhaven House at night, Boy Scouts of all levels will listen to the creepy history of Hampton Roads preformed as short skits. While around the campfire roast marshmallows and have some cider. When not around the fire scouts will participate in crafts & game stations inside the Colonial Education Center.This event takes place at the Lynnhaven House and Colonial Education Center at 4409 Wishart Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23455.Questions about event? Call 757-385-5118. Advanced ONLINE ONLY registration is required at $8/person (siblings also welcome). Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door (Lynnhaven House) on the day of the event.   • Description:  Join the Virginia Beach History Museums for a new Fall Craft Night Series! The third Thursday of the month, September through December, will feature a new craft. The series kicks off with an Introduction to Calligraphy workshop with Kimberly Ann Jones (https://kimberlyannjonesart.com/) Have you ever watched those mesmerizing videos on Instagram of people effortlessly crafting letters? Think it would be great to be able to do it, too? Kimberly Ann Jones will show you the easy way to dive into this amazing fun hobby without breaking the bank!In this workshop you'll learn the basics of calligraphy while using supplies you can easily replenish! All workshop supplies are included, and you will leave with a ready-to-frame artwork and new skill to impress your friends and family. Please bring a word or short phrase to practice.Advanced ONLINE ONLY registration is required. This workshop requires a minimum registration of 12 participants. Smithsonian Museum Day   View Event

  • Description:  Celebrate Smithsonian magazine's Museum Day at the Francis Land House!Museum Day is an annual celebration of boundless curiosity hosted by Smithsonian magazine. Participating museums and cultural institutions across the country provide free entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day ticket. The Museum Day ticket provides free admission for two people on Saturday, September 21, 2019.Tickets provide our visitors with a free guided tour of the Francis Land House. For our younger visitors a special free story time will be held at 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM, and will be followed by a make and take craft. Download your Museum Day ticket here.

Siptember Cider Tours   View Event

  • Location:  1636 Parish Drive, Thoroughgood House
  • Description:  Kick off fall with an interactive, family-friendly tour that will take you through the Thoroughgood House and grounds. Learn about the history of cider making, try your hand at pressing apples, sample heirloom varieties grown locally in Pungo, and wassail our trees to help them grow! End your tour with cider and a donut. Tours begin every half hour starting at 2:00PM, with the last tour starting at 4:00PM. When purchasing a ticket please select the time you would like to begin your tour. $12/adult; $10 for kids 12 and under.Apple cider that will be served is non-alcoholic. Purchase tickets here.
