  • Description:  Step back in time to before the Thorowgood family lived in Virginia Beach! Prior to English contact at Jamestown in 1607, the Woodland Indians thrived in what is now modern-day Virginia. Come out and learn about the Virginian Indians, including their environment, customs and history. Tours are FREE. No advanced registration requirement. Conversation with a Curator: Thelaball Family Bible (FREE)   View Event

  • Description:  Come to the Lynnhaven House Colonial Education Center September 20th for "Conversation with a Curator," featuring a viewing of the Thelaball Family Bible! The Bible, which dates back to 1743, was owned by Prudence Thelaball, granddaughter of the man who built the Lynnhaven House, Francis Thelaball! Museums Director Annmarie Reiley-Kay will give a FREE lecture about the history of the Bible, the Thelaball Family and Lynnhaven House, as well as a discussion about what it takes to preserve centuries-old artifacts! This event is FREE and open to the public. Advanced registration is not required. Light refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Virginia Beach Historic Houses, Inc.   • Description:  Visitors will have the opportunity to experience a specially focused program called "The Enslaved Perspective" during Thursday evening tours on September 23rd from 5:30pm-8:00pm. This program focuses on the history and stories of the enslaved individuals who lived and worked on the Thoroughgood House property in the 18th and 19th centuries. All tours are FREE to attend.
